When I first met Mike Oliver, it was back 1996. I was his "new" next door neighbor. I liked him from the very start just because he was from Long Island, NY just like myself. He was single at the time, but not for long. I still remember the first time he introduced me to his (at the time) girlfriend Kayte, and I knew they were absolutely perfect for each other right from the start. One night as I was having some drinks on my back porch, I suddenly heard a woman singing with this amazing voice...alongside some really amazing acoustic guitar playing. It was Kayte singing.. with Michael playing alongside on his guitar on their front porch. I couldn't believe how good they sounded together. I, along with the other neighbors were really blown away. Soon after, they started to learn more and more songs, and it wasn't long before all our friends in the neighborhood started looking forward to listening to them play together on the weekends when we all gathered after hours for some fun. I distinctly remember saying, "You two have got to consider starting your own gig!" Of course, they were very modest at the time and just laughed it off, ......but we all knew better. They definitely have some real talent. Turns out we were all right. Nowadays, they are doing shows all over the south. If you have ever had the opportunity to see them live, then you already know that they are "simply the best combination of talent, fun, friendship, and love anywhere around." Michael and Kayte have since moved away to FLorida, but we still get to see their "Acoustic Pop Tour" whenever they are performing within a few hours' drive. In fact, we recently drove to Simpsonville, SC over Memorial Weekend to watch them perform at the "Freedom Weekend Aloft" Festival and they were absolutely awesome. Don't miss a chance to see them if you ever have the opportunity. And little old me... well, I just get the bragging rights that I was the first to discover them. And that's good enough for me!
