Kayte is a native of Atlanta, Georgia. She was one of those little girls who was always singing...usually in the bathroom where the acoustics are great. She says "I have loved all types of music my entire life and always wanted to be a singer. I have never possessed the talent to play an instrument, so I usually looked for boyfriends who were musicians and then tried to quietly sing along in the background". Her first "real" boyfriend was someone who would later become her first husband and eventually, a famous country music star. They were married September of 1982. Kayte says "Even way back then, he was always singing and always in a band. I sang harmony with him and we did a few duets together as well. We actually had a Contemporary Christian Band called "The Prince of Peace". After Kayte and her husband divorced in 1984, she continued her own journey of singing and acting. In her mid 20's, she performed theater in downtown Atlanta with an Improvisational Comedy Troupe called "New & Improv'd". Although the shows were improvisational plays, she managed to get at least one song into every show! She also moonlighted for a singing telegram company in Atlanta called "Monkey Business". Of that time period in her life, Kayte says "All of those years doing improvisational comedy and singing telegrams gave me the confidence to get up in front of sometimes very large crowds and just have a blast. You have to be able to just "go" with whatever is happening at that moment...interact with the audience and be very funny and quick on your feet" I really rely on that early training now during our live perfomances because our current audiences want to be entertained and hear some great music" .
In 1996, Kayte met her wonderful husband, Mike who she says is an amazing guitar player! Early on in their relationship, he would play something simple like Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide" or "Harvest Moon" by Neil Young and she would (as usual) quietly sing along. Mike encouraged her by saying "you need to break out of your shell and really sing...let the people hear you". Kayte says "He has been a wonderful supporter of my desire to sing and has really brought my voice to the point where I now have confidence in my ability to not just sing, but to sing well with fun, passion and lots of feeling. Mike has me singing songs that 3 years ago I would have said..."uh,uh...no way can I sing that" (think Talking Heads!) Kayte says "We have worked very diligently over the past 3 1/2 years to pick the right songs that really showcase our abilities, but also songs that audiences of all ages will recognize and love. To sum it all up, Kayte says " To have come into this time in my life where I love a man who basically provides the background music for our life...well...it's incredible. Every girl who loves to sing should be lucky enough to have a man supporting her, pushing her to be her best and insisting that the show must go on. I am so grateful to have my husband, Mike as that man! If you enjoy any of our music, please go up to Mike and shake his hand for being our director, arranger and our producer...without his direction...I would still be the shy girl just singing to myself in the bathroom"!
